Santa Cruz River Wildlife Ramp
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Year Complete: In Design
Project Lead: Solis Engineering, Co.
Client: Pima County Regional Flood Control District
The Wildlife Ramp along the Santa Cruz River is one piece of improving wildlife connectivity from the Tortolita Mountains to the Tucson Mountains. The existing soil cement levy is quite steep; the ramp will create a much gentler passage, while keeping levy functionality intact. The Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan recognizes the importance of this corridor and plans are underway through Pima County to develop a crossing of the interstate frontage road and railroad that are additional barriers to the east.
Wilder is developing planting, irrigation, and erosion control plans for the project. A seed mix, composed of native species appropriate for the site conditions, will be the basis for revegetation. To help the public visualize the proposed project, Wilder worked with Dennis Caldwell of Caldwell Design to develop two views of the ramp as it will appear after construction.
